Senator Durbin visited RCC on October 14, 2017. He met with members of the Rohingya community, heard their stories of persecution, escape, and resettlement in the United States, and had lunch with the community.

Dr. Imran Akbar, one of the RCC board members, who had just returned from a medical mission to Bangladesh, recounted his experiences with the arriving refugees, the conditions of the refugee camps, and shared pictures and videos from his trip with Senator Durbin.

Professor Azeem Ibrahim, the foremost scholar on the Rohingya, Khalil Demir of Zakat Foundation, and Nasir Zakaria of RCC were also present. The Senator discussed concrete measures to address the Rohingya humanitarian crisis. He also met with members of the community individually. Voice of America was present and covered the meeting.
